Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Newcastle vs. Manchester United at EPL
The clash between Newcastle and Manchester United is extremely important in the UEFA Champions League spot race. United is now third with 50 points, while Newcastle sits fifth, three steps behind. In between is Tottenham with 49 points, but with two games more than both of these units. So, a win here would boost the chances of reaching the most prominent European competition massively.
Newcastle
Eddie Howe’s crew held on well until the start of February, once their form fell sharply. The Magpies failed to win in five consecutive events, having two draws and three consecutive losses, which eliminated them from the championship race and endangered their UCL prospects.
One of those losses was in the EFL finals, against Manchester United, 2-0. It was a wasted chance for Newcastle to reach its first trophy after six decades, but the Red Devils prevented them from doing so.
The last seven of their events were with moderate efficiency, meaning 2 or 3 goals which has been Newcastle’s trademark this season.
Manchester United
So the Red Devils had one minus over the past six weeks, which was a terrible defeat at Anfield, where Liverpool won 7-0. It is the only loss for Erik Ten Hag’s crew over the latest 16 contests.
United didn’t win in back-to-back Premier League events, as they played without goals at home against Southampton following the disaster in Liverpool. Yet, the team from Trafford was better in Sevilla against Betis in the Europa League Round of 16 rematch, 0-1, and against Fulham in the FA Cup, 3-1.
Regarding the performances on the road, United is unstable, with four defeats and wins each, plus two draws. Four of the last five saw only one team scoring.
Newcastle United: Pope; Trippier, Botman, Schar, Burn; S Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Willock; Almiron, Wilson, Saint-Maximin
Manchester United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia; Fred, McTominay; Sancho, Fernandes, Garnacho; Rashford
Manchester and Newcastle played without goals at Trafford in the opening game of the year. Afterward, these two units met in the EFL finals, and United won that event 2-0. It was the first trophy for Ten Hag in England, and something that brought back the Red Devils in the center of attention.
We expect to see a very hard and tactical matchup without too much beauty. The Magpies need three points, but even so, Howe won’t open and risk anything. That’s why under 2.5 goals is a reasonable bet for this contest.
Our verdict: Under 2.5 goals
