Prediction, Odds & Betting Tips for Spain vs. Croatia at EURO 2024
The Spanish and Croatian teams know one another very well. They have played a few games in the past several years, and even though the Spanish team introduced youngsters recently, we can say that there are no secrets between them. Croats have a more experienced team that has been together for quite some time. Spaniards are younger yet stacked with superstar quality. According to all this, this should be an interesting game.
Spain
The Red Fury had a shocking exit from the World Cup in Qatar and, after that, a tough opening to the 2024 EURO qualifiers, losing to Scotland on the road. From that moment on, Spain was on fire, winning eight straight games.
Among other things, they would lift the UEFA Nations League trophy, beating Italy in the semis and Croatia in the finals. It was a huge boost for the Spanish youngsters, and the team looked fantastic at that point.
Later on, we saw plenty of injuries, and instead of coming to this championship as one of the top favorites, they are now dark horses for the trophy. Though, if nothing, there won’t be any pressure upon their backs, so the Red Fury can play this tournament a bit more relaxed than they expected.
Croatia
The Croats have been one of the best teams in the world over the last ten years. Apart from Luka Modric, they don’t really have superstars in their unit, but on the other hand, this team is cohesive as hell. Its chemistry is incredible, which we saw on numerous occasions in the past, particularly at the past two World Cups.
They ended second in their qualifiers group, behind Turkey, yet that’s not a problem for the Zlatko Dalic’s unit, who usually plays just as much as they need, nothing more.
Right now, the Croatian side has five consecutive victories, with four clean sheets. We have to add that the defense, especially goalkeeper Livakovic, has been the best part of this team over the last two years.
Spain: Simon; Carvajal, Le Normand, Cucurella, Grimaldo; Pedri, Rodri, Ruiz; Yamal, Morata, Oyarzabal
Croatia: Livakovic; Stanisic, Sutalo, Pongracic, Gvardiol; Brozovic, Modric, Kovacic; Majer, Kramaric, Pjaca
The two rivals’ previous meeting was in the finals of the UEFA Nations League in 2023, when Spain won after penalties. The result during the regular 90 minutes was 0-0. Before that, these two units met in the EURO 2020 Round of 16, with the Spaniards triumphing after extra time. It was 3-3 in the regular time and 5-3 after the additional 30 minutes.
Spain has problems in the midfield, with Gabi absent, and that’s a huge blow for the Red Fury. Pedri isn’t that fit, either. Still, they have plenty of talent and potential, but so do the Croats. In our opinion, the best bet in this event would be under 2.5 goals because it is the opening event at EURO for both units, who are, by the way, very strong in the back line.
Our pick: Under 2.5 goals
