Group E is arguably the most interesting one in the entire EURO 2020. We are making a preview of the match between Sweden and Poland, which might decide many things in this assembly. Believe it or not, all the teams have a chance to advance to the knockout round, which adds tension and drama to the entire situation. Sweden tops the standings, while Poland sits last, yet that could be changed at the end of these 90 minutes.
Blagult is first in Group E with just one scored goal. After playing 0-0 in the opener against Spain, restraining the Red Fury’s attack, Sweden beat Slovakia in the next match.
The only score was delivered from the penalty kick, with Emil Forsberg converting the same. As you see from the previous two results, the Swedish team relies upon very tough defense and not so appealing style of play.
We need to admit that the Swedes are in fantastic shape, winning six of the past seven matches, and posting one draw. During that span, Janne Andersson’s side allowed just one goal, and even though their opponents were a bit weaker sides, that can’t be diminished in any way.
Against all odds, Poland managed to stay unbeaten against Spain and complicate the entire situation in Group E. Robert Lewandowski used one of the rare chances he had in the opening 180 minutes to score and save hopes for the round of 16.
The Poles had a lot of luck in this event, as Spain missed a penalty and several other very big chances. Overall, we can say that Lewa and the boys didn’t deserve to take this point, but on the other side, the Spaniards definitely didn’t deserve to win.
Right now, Poland is without a triumph in five consecutive games. When looking further back in the past, this team posted one win in nine matches. But all that could be erased if they take three points from this one and secure the next stage.
Sweden: Olsen; Lustig, Lindelof, Danielson, Augustinsson; S. Larsson, Ekdal, Olsson, Forsberg; Isak, Berg
Poland: Szczesny; Bereszynski, Bednarek, Glik; Jozwiak, Moder, Krychowiak, Zielinski, Puchacz; Swiderski, Lewandowski
These teams haven’t met in 17 years. Back in 2004, Sweden defeated Poland in a friendly international, 3-1. Previously they met in EURO qualifiers in two consecutive campaigns, and Sweden won in all four matches not allowing a single goal.
Poland needs three points from this contest and nothing else than that. Meanwhile, the Swedish team will be perfectly satisfied with one. With five points in three matches, Blagult would secure one of the top two places in Group E, maybe even the No.1.
We strongly believe that Andersson’s game plan would include strong defense and a very rigid approach in the midfield. After all, that is how Sweden plays. Our final pick for this game is Under 2.5 goals. All the factors are simply forcing us to bet on that.
