The champion, Alex Perieria, is listed as an underdog, which is odd considering his record against Izzy. With three victories, Poatan is the only man in the world to beat Izzy multiple times at middleweight. Pereira’s massive frame, which fills up quickly after weigh-in cuts, makes him noticeably larger than most of his competitors.

After losing his first mixed martial arts match, Pereira won eight in a row, including victories over notable UFC fighters such as Bruno Silva, Andreas Michailidis, Sean Strickland (whom he brutally knocked out), and, finally, Izzy.

Only one win didn’t come by a knockout, testifying his incredible strength. The nickname Stone Hand is an apt description for Pereira, with them being the strongest hitter in the division. He may appear a bit slower than his rivals, but he moves quite quickly, considering his size.

Israel Adesanya

At one point, Israel Adesanya was the biggest star in the UFC, and maybe the best pound-for-pound fighter in the same. Over the past two years, that changed significantly. His first loss was to the light heavyweight champ, Jan Blachowicz, when the Last Stylebender wanted to become the best in two divisions. Most recently, the defeat against Pereira hurt Izzy’s reputation heavily.

When looking at his history, Adesanya had five title defenses after defeating Robert Whittaker. He was criticized for being boring and too cautious in the ring, but nobody can dispute his domination.

Izzy can keep his distance from his opponent thanks to his lightning-fast reflexes and enormous reach. Inside the cage, he’s a sharp competitor who flawlessly executes the game plan while tailoring the tempo and cadence to his style. Also, he is stubborn as hell, pushing his agenda regardless of the circumstances.

Although Pereira now has a better understanding of Izzy’s MMA prowess, we still don’t think he can catch up to Adesanya, who has proven to us that he adapts and improves with each fight.

Keep in mind that Adesanya was winning on all three scorecards prior to the stoppage and that it was only the horn saving Pereira from an early knockout loss the second round.
