UFC Fight Night: Yan vs. Dvalishvili Prediction

Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for Yan vs. Dvalishvili at UFC Fight Night

  • Where: Las Vegas, Nevada
  • When: Saturday, March 11, 10 pm ET

This is the bantamweight bout that might have massive implications for the division. Yan is dethroned, and since, his struggles to get back have been massive. Not only that, he apparently isn’t getting the least love from the scoring judges, who made some controversial decisions in favor of his opponents. Meanwhile, Dvalishvili is on the rise, and wants to be the next contender. He wants the shot at the title, and if, by any chance, the Georgian triumphs here, we all know who will be Aljamain Sterling’s next rival.

Yan vs. Dvalishvili Prediction

Petr Yan

The Russian is probably the best bantamweight in the division, but somehow he got into this nasty position where he lost the belt and two matches afterward. Losing the belt was highly controversial. He was demolishing Sterling, putting on a rampage, but his illegal knee to the head cost him the belt. Afterward, he trashed Sandhagen before meeting with Sterling, who avoided fighting and constantly tried to wrestle Yan, thus keeping the title, via split decision.

In his most recent contest, back in October 2022, he once again lost via split decision, this time to Sean O’Malley, who couldn’t believe he won once the announcement was made. Yan did receive a few hard punches in this one, and he had to dig deep to respond, but the overall impression was that “No Mercy,” as the fans call him, should have routinely won this event.

The 30-year-old is a fantastic kicker and puncher whose attacks might be the most lethal and the most versatile in the entire organization. His Muay Thai is fantastic, as well as boxing, and we haven’t seen too many guys who can strike like him.

Merab Dvalishvili

The Georgian is two years older, and only now reaches his prime. Dvalishvili is a vicious wrestler nicknamed “The Machine,” which tells a lot about him. Dvalishvili has six decision wins in the bantamweight division, the highest ever, which suggests that he relies upon his cardio and raw power. Unlike Yan, he isn’t a KO artist nor some deadly striker, even though we can see him beating his rivals in the standup from time to time.

However, when it comes to takedowns, there aren’t better fighters in bantamweight than Dvalishvili, and we sincerely mean that even Sterling isn’t better in that aspect. The Georgian averages 6.54 takedowns per 15 minutes, which is impressive.

He rides an eight-match winning streak, beating Marlon Moraes and Jose Aldo in the previous two events. Dvalishvili knocked out Moraes, while outscoring Aldo via points and earning a unanimous decision.

Yan versus Dvalishvili Prediction

Our pick here would be Yan because he seems to have a much more experience in clashes like these, and due to his excellent speed and solid versatility inside the octagon. We are sure that the Russian has enough power to resist Dvalishvili’s attempt to drag him to the mat, and on the other hand, the Georgian has never been in the position to reach championship rounds. All this is enough for us to pick Yan.

Our verdict: Yan wins
