Prediction, Odds & Betting tips for USA vs. Wales | Group Stage, World Cup Qatar 2022
USA and Wales meet in the opening round of the World Cup, and this event could easily decide which team advances to the knockout stage. The Americans have a young and talented team, but they have played quite poorly in the last few months. The Dragons are a hard-working, tough unit, and they’ve proved their value over the previous years by participating in several big events.
USA
The Americans are preparing a team for the 2026 World Cup, and they have one of the youngest teams in Qatar. Some say that it might be their advantage, others that it could be a big minus for Gregg Berhalter’s crew, and which ones are right, only time will tell.
The USA isn’t in some particularly great shape, not winning the past three games, and failing to score in the previous two. We know that several of their starters weren’t involved in these contests, but losing to Japan 2-0 and playing without goals against Japan is disappointing.
Christian Pulisic, Gyo Reyna, and Weston McKennie are the leaders of the crew, and all of them are offensive midfielders. Overall the midfield is better than the remaining areas, and the most talented players are in that part of the unit.
Wales
The Dragons are even worse if we look at their recent results. Wales is without a victory in the last five games, all in the UEFA Nations League, losing four and having just one draw.
But to be honest, the only thing on their minds was the World Cup playoffs, in which they managed to beat Ukraine 1-0 and secure their ticket to Qatar. After that, Bale and the boys played the remaining contests in the UNL only because they had to, not bringing too much energy into it.
Eight of Wales’ latest ten matchups ended with both units netting, and the vast majority of the games saw a moderate efficiency, meaning 2 or 3 goals.
USA: Turner, Robinson, Carter-Vickers, Zimmerman, Dest; Adams, McKennie, Musah; Pulisic, Ferreira, Weah
Wales: Hennessey; Rodon, Ampadu, Davies; Roberts, Ramsey, Allen, Williams; Wilson, Bale, James
Two years ago, on November 20, 2020, these teams met in a friendly international in Wales. The result of this event was 0-0, with the game being pretty tough without too many chances.
In our opinion, Wales has a more experienced unit, and only because of that, we give the edge to the Dragons. They know how to behave in big tournaments, plus their team is physically much tougher than the Americans.
Our verdict: Wales wins
